hola, bienvenidos vanuit puerto montt,

de eerste echte klimfoto´s vanuit cochamo, ze zijn een feit. zie ¨foto´s.

Als je ¨kaart¨aanklikt, en inzoomt op de onderste icoontjes,  zie je exact waar ons hoogste tentje staat onder de trinidad wand (een blauw  icoontje behorende bij dit verhaal)

valparaiso

eerste berichtje uit Chili,

het is hier perfect weer, maar ja, dat was ook helemaal de bedoeling natuurlijk.

we zitten in een hostel in valparaiso, wat bijkomen van de reis. Pavel was al ziek vertokken uit europa, en is nu herstellende, met verse vruchtensapjes en zon op ons balkonnetje. ik heb ondertussen mijn sofinummer geregeld voor de auto die gekocht gaat worden. Morgen of overmorgen vertrekken we richting de bergen!

English info about Cochamo

Valle Cochamó's rock provides route potential beyond the imagination. The area has already become a world class climbing destination, with first ascents from people from almost every continent on the globe. If you're into long routes, sport routes, bouldering, establishing new routes or just hanging in a gorgeous landscape, Valle Cochamó is one of South America's best.

The area has only minimal development but many routes already exist. The rock quality is excellent. Nevertheless, unclimbed cracks tend to be dirty and vegetated in places.

Both sport climbing and bouldering areas in the valley are being developed.

Many climbers familiar with Yosemite Valley have found Valle Cochamó to have many common features, as well as differences. Comparing the two may be sinfull, but as you enter between the glacially-formed granite walls it's difficutlt not to. Long bold lines make their way to the top. Cochamó, however, lacks some of Yosemite's obvious aspects. Traffic, motors and generator noise don't exist since there are no roads. Ranger Jo won't say you have surpassed your two-week limit stay or arrest you for sleeping in a cave. Camping will not likely fill up either. Freedom reins in the Valle Cochamó.

This also means, however, that the routes can be still dirty and vegetated. Trails to the walls don't always exist because so many still have not been touched. Vegetation flourishes in this Valdivian rainforest on the approach and sometimes in the cracks.

valle cochamo

Valle Cochamo  is the valley in between the 1000m-granite bigwalls ( see "Kaart" : blue arrow from cochamo to the north east the into the valley. A refugio must be here. Bivak also permitted.

Valle Cochamo is de vallei omringt door 1000 m hoge granieten rotswanden. Hier bevindt zich ergens een klimmerscamping en regufio. Zie " Kaart " , zoom in op cochamo tussen Santiago en Patagonie/Zuidpunt van Chili. Vandaaruit loopt een blauwe peil naar het N-oosten een vallei in. Bij het einde van de pijl is het middelpunt van de vallei, hieromheen de rotswanden.

voorbereiding 3 maanden klimreis Zuidamerika

Ha beste lezer,

Een website voor de foto's en verhalen van de klimreis naar Chili en Argentinie is 1  van de puntjes van het voorbereidingslijstje. Over precies 4 weken stap ik in het vliegtuis naar Madrid, om vervolgens 5 februari via Buenos Aires naar Santiago, de hoofdstad in Chili te vliegen. Vandaaruit gaan Pavel ( mijn klimpartner) en ik naar Cochamo (zie onder kopje "foto's) , een bekend maar vrij onontgonnen klimgebied in het noordelijke gedeelte van Patagonie. Het ligt op hoogte van het stadje Puerto Montt in Chili, een stukje het binnenland in.  Het idee is daar 3 tot 5 weken te blijven. vervolgens trekken we langs de Andes naar het Noorden. Bariloche in Argentinie is 1 waarschijnlijk de volgende stop.

Climbing in Chile and Argentinia

Hola!

This is my webblog about the climbing trip i will make with Pavel in Feb/march/april 2009 in South America. we will arrive 6th of Februari in Santiago de Chile. Our first climbing area to discover will be Cochamo in North Patagonia, close to Puerto Montt. See Foto-section for details in English.
